Makers Kit Instructions

You may have just received your makers kit in the mailbox or you've returned home after picking up a kit or two from the markets. Don't worry, these instructions are just a guide and you're really encouraged just to let your creative heart lead you in the direction it wants to go.

In your kit you should find:

10 x pressed flowers - these flowers have been grown from seed in the gardens of The Wildest Bloom. No chemicals have been used ever.

1 x card

1 x envelope

Additional items you will need:

Craft glue that holds, Modge Podge works well. Alternatively you could use a hot glue gun.

Optional items:

Coffee or black tea for staining paper

Paint brush or sponge to apply

Tweezers, scissors

Staining:

Decide if you would like to stain your card paper so it has more of a vintage feel or just the addition of interest and depth. I like to stain my card paper using black tea, coffee or cacao. Use more or less water to increase or decrease the depth of colour. Drop the stain onto the paper and let it spread naturally or manipulate the shape with a paint brush, it's up to you but just experiment and have fun with it.

Your paper can seem a little too wet after doing this and will need to be laid out for a short time to dry. You might notice the card paper has curled and  is misshapen. Don't be concerned, just leave it to dry and then iron it with some fabric between the iron and the card paper so it lays flat again.

Design:

Have a look at the flowers and foliage you have to work with and think about the placement, it's best not to handle the natural materials much as some can be very fragile. You might like to only apply your pressed materials to the front of your card for a fuller look or for a card with more negative space you may like to apply your pressed materials to both the front and the back, it's just a matter of what feels right. You can overlap and layer to create depth as well.

Application

If you have tweezers now is the time to use them (when handling the pressed materials). Apply your glue to the back of the pressed material you have decided to place first. I do not apply any glue to the actual paper because when it dries it is very visible and noticeable and not a nice finish. Trim any excess length of pressed materials if you would like to.

Finishing

Allow your creation to dry and gift to a loved one. Enjoy!
